☀ Upright — the core message

The things you least want to face — fear, desire, dark thoughts — are not your enemies. They're part of you, kept too long in the basement. Opening that door isn't so you'll be swallowed; it's so you can see that the chain holding you has been loose all along, and you can lift it off whenever you choose.

☽ Reversed — a reminder

Does something feel close to slipping out of control? A feeling, an impulse, a thought you can't press down. You're afraid you'll do something you shouldn't. That fear isn't a sign of madness — it's proof your awareness is still working.

In depth

🔮 Tarot symbolism

Baphomet sits on a black cube, chains around a man and a woman — but look closely: the chains are loose, and they can lift them off at any time. That's the card's most important message: the bondage is voluntary. The inverted pentagram marks spiritual force turned upside down by the material world; the raised torch is the fire of desire. The pair have grown horns and tails, the longer they stay the more they resemble caged animals. Their horns are still small, though — there is still time, if you're willing to look down at that loose chain.

🧠 Jungian archetype

The shadow is among Jung's most central ideas — everything consciousness rejects and presses into the unconscious. Citrinitas asks us to look at the shadow directly. Cherry Plum corresponds to the fear of losing control: of going mad, of breaking, of doing something irreversible. Jung wrote that the shadow you refuse to face comes back to find you in the shape of fate. Facing it doesn't mean being swallowed by it — it means lighting it, naming it, and then its power becomes yours to use.

🌸 Flower essence spectrum

When you're afraid of losing control, sensing reason about to be flooded by an impulse, Cherry Plum keeps you company as steadiness returns, so your eyes stay clear inside the storm.

Working with this card

1

Recognise — you may be…

There may be a pressure inside close to bursting, a strong feeling or impulse held down by sheer will. You're afraid that if you let go, everything will fall apart. That fear of being about to lose control is more punishing than losing control would be.

2

Allow

“I allow dark thoughts to exist; they are not the same as acting”

3

Body awareness — notice…

Notice your hands — are they gripping something without your noticing? Spread all ten fingers wide for five seconds, then release completely, and feel the instant of letting go.

🫁 In the moment: a breath practice

Take two quick sniffs in through the nose like a double hum, then one big exhale through the mouth, hands moving from fist to open. It gives the pressure inside a safe way out.

🌸 Scent guidance

Put MUNI ONE oil in your palms, rub them fast for thirty seconds until warm, then cup the warm palms over your eyes and stay a minute in darkness and heat.

Today's practice

Write on a piece of paper the one thought or feeling you'd least want anyone to know. It doesn't have to be reasonable. Read it aloud once. Then keep it or tear it up — what matters is that it was said.

🧘 How this awareness works | MUNI × Joy of Living

Awareness is like switching on a nightlight in a dark room. You're not trying to flood it with light — only to see clearly that the shape in the corner is a coat over a chair, not the monster you'd imagined.
